Monastery Santa María de Mave, from Monastery to Hotel.
Monastery of Santa María de Mave. Near the Horadada canyon, we visit the Monastery of Santa María de Mave. The current monastery was founded by Sancha Jiménez in 1200. There are records of this complex dating back to the early 12th century. It is characterized by the reddish tone of the stone. It consists of a church from the late 13th century and the dependencies around a cloister. Today, it houses a well-known rural hotel. The church is of Burgundian influence. It has a floor plan with three naves, a head with three apses, and a semi-spherical dome over an octagonal lantern at the crossing. Its portal stands out with slightly pointed archivolts featuring decorative sawtooth motifs. The shafts of the freestanding columns are not attached to the wall. Its interior is austere. Finally, it is reduced in the capitals and the mural decoration of the side chapels, which date back to the 16th century.
