Our Lady of the Assumption of Pisón
The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption in Pisón de Castrejón is a small church located on the outskirts of the village of Pisón de Castrejón, 2 kilometers from Castrejón de la Peña. Built in the 12th century with modifications from later periods, it features a single nave covered with a pointed barrel vault and a semicircular apse. The entrance, guarded by a portico, has four archivolts resting on columns with capitals decorated with vegetal motifs. The upper part is notable for its frieze depicting the Pantocrator and the figures of the apostles. This theme, which can be seen in other parts of the province, is later and corresponds to the late Gothic period. The entire facade is adorned with a series of exceptionally detailed corbels featuring vegetal, geometric, and figurative designs. The bell gable is topped with a characteristic gable end typical of the area.
