Virgen del Brezo. Sanctuary of Virgen del Brezo, venerated throughout the La Peña area.
Sanctuary of Virgen del Brezo. Located near Villafría de la Peña, in the Sierra del Brezo approximately at the foot of the mountain. It is a complex composed of three buildings: the church, the chapel, and the guesthouse. The neoclassical church is accessed through an atrium.
It consists of a single nave with a choir at the back and a dome in the presbytery. It houses the Romanesque-style statue of the Virgin with the Child, dating from the early 13th century. However, the main pilgrimage to the Sanctuary is celebrated on September 21st. It gathers devotees of the Virgen del Brezo, as well as family and friends. Currently, the image of the Virgen del Brezo rests throughout the year in the Diocesan Museum of Palencia.
