Tower of Villanueva de la Torre

Villanueva de la Torre is located above the Aguilar de Campoo reservoir and 112 kilometers from Palencia capital. It belongs to the municipality of Barruelo de Santullán, and there are records of this population and its existence since the 10th century, although it is already mentioned in documents around the year 1175. Just as we enter this town, on a small elevation, a large defensive tower stands out, whose mission was also a control point for the access of animals and people. It is believed to date from the 13th to the 15th centuries, maintaining most of its original construction, and even the defensive moats that surrounded it can be discerned. It has been considered a BIC (Bien de Interés Cultural - Asset of Cultural Interest) since 1949. It is located in a very attractive area of the Palencia Mountain due to its interaction with nature, full of forests and elevations.
